Bulk Importing References

You can bulk import two types of reference files: JSTOR XML metadata format and Web of Science plain text exports either as columns (tab-delimited) or list of records (plain text).

You can import individual files or you can create a zip archive of multiple files and upload that zip file. Just make sure there are no subfolders in the zip file.

To start an import, click on “Import” in the main menu and select “Import from file…”.

On the page that opens, select the group you want the new data to be imported to. Then choose the file you want to import from your computer. Finally click “Upload files.” The import will start. This might take a while depending on current server workload and the size of you upload.

To see the status of your import, either click on the “job list” link in the blue notification box that popped up after the upload started or by clicking on “Import” and then “See all Imports” in the main menu.

If your import finished successfully there will be a green checkmark icon next to the import job. A red exclamation mark indicates that an error occurred.

Due to a bug in Citesphere, imports sometimes fail on the first try. If your import fails the first time you try it, try it again with the same file and it might succeed. If it still fails on the second try, then there is most likely an issue with file to be imported (such as a format Citesphere can’t read).
