Merging Concepts

Conceptpower includes the option to merge two or more concepts into one concept. If there are two or more concepts representing the same ‘thing in the world’, merging will create one concept out of them while making sure that the uris of the unmerged concepts still resolve.

In order to merge concepts in Conceptpower, find the concepts to be merged and press the "Select concepts to merge" button. This will change the edit button to the left of the term to a checkbox as shown below. Select the checkboxes next to the concepts to be merged and press the "Merge selected concepts" button.

This process will produce a screen similar to that shown below. This screen allows the user to refine the concept by deleting redundant information or adding new, more relevant information. Finish the process by selecting "Store merged concept" or select "Cancel!" in order to stop the process.

The above image shows that, for the concepts selected, "A new id will be generated for the merged concepts." The image below shows a situation where both concepts to be merged are from the same persons list. In this case, there is an option to choose the concept Id using the radio buttons next to the desired Id. If no Id is selected, a concept Id will be automatically generated.
